55 JUNE 2025 www.goodnewsfl.org Good News • South Florida Edition COMMUNITY NEWS Ryan Skoog, co-founder and president of Venture.org, was the keynote speaker at a recent Lifework Leadership event at Boca Raton Community Church in April, sharing how “courage motivated by compassion leads to miracles.” At Venture.org, this means serving in unsafe, unreached, and underresourced areas, addressing injustices like human trafficking, refugee crises, and extreme poverty. Ryan encouraged attendees to identify one concrete, even small, courageous step they could take in their business or professional life where a “little leap of courage”, driven by compassion for team, clients, or community, could lead to significant positive impact. Lifework Leadership is a nine-month experience (Sept– May) featuring nationally-known speakers, case studies, book discussions, and practical applications. They explore Jesus as the ultimate leader alongside corporate leadership best practices, helping professionals navigate challenges in work and life. Back for its second year, this student-led initiative gives foster youth the chance to feel seen, celebrated, and confident—one appointment at a time. Children enjoyed: • A professional hair styling session with stylists experienced in textured hair care • Learning sessions on textured hair hygiene and care (for both kids and caregivers!) • A take-home bag of textured hair care products, donated through Spanish River's Textured Hair Drive “This event is about more than hair. It’s about dignity, identity, and connection,” said student leader Rylie Heck, who coordinated the project with peers, volunteer stylists and a salon that generously donated its space. Sofia Scher, the original student founder, reflected on why she launched the event: “I planned this event last year because I believe that all youth should have the opportunity to learn about their textured hair and get it styled/treated. I hope the event continues to happen and spread awareness about the attention this issue deserves.” The Textured Hair Care Event is more than just a hair day—it’s a powerful statement of belonging, beauty, and belief in every child’s worth.
