h m a ol w o t T J " t u t t t w S s Since it is graduation season, Good News Wants to Know...What song instantly takes you back to your high school graduation year? Earth, Wind and Fire's “Shining Star,” Fleetwood Mac's “Rihannon” and Bee Gees’ “Nights on Broadway.” Larry Lacy, Pastor, The Answer Church Great question! “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’” and “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction.” I’ll answer for Les Feldman: “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter.” William “Bill” C. Davell, Director, Tripp Scott Most embarrassing: “Hold My Hand” by Hootie & The Blowfish. Least embarrassing: “Say It Ain’t So” by Weezer. Bob Denison, President, Denison Yachting The song that resonates with me is Lynyrd Skynyrd's “Free Bird.” Although it was released prior to graduation year, it captured the spirit of our class. Char Talmadge, Executive Director, Rescue Upstream The one song that takes me back to my graduation at War Memorial Auditorium at Holiday Park is “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears For Fears. I was a fan of the band then and remain so having seen them as recently as last year. They have endured as a once inaccurately titled “one hit wonder 80’s band” just like my memory of that day! Chip LaMarca, State Representative, Florida House District 100 The song that instantly takes me back to my high school graduation year is “Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Our class played that song at every event, and the lyrics run throughout our yearbook. It was a big deal to all of us seniors longing to be free that year. It was our anthem. Craig D. Huston, Summit Achievers When I hear "(Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay," I'm reminded of the summer after graduation, serving as a lifeguard. `Deborah Cusick, FAU Volunteer, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship The song that instantly takes me back to my high school graduation year is “Forever Young” by Rod Stewart. With “Bust A Move” by Young MC in a strong second. Dennis DeMarois, Executive Director and CEO, Gathering Palm Beach County I don't have just one song that takes me back to high school. Even our Reunion Committee can't come up with only one or two that mark our year. Anything from Al Green, Gladys Knight, Chicago, Carole King, America, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Neil Young, Jonie Mitchell, James Taylor, Paul McCartney and Wings, Stevie Wonder, Don McLean, Steely Dan, and I could go on. Phil Keaggy's first Christian hit album came out the summer I graduated. Yes, I'm that old and praising God for every year! Dolores King-St. George, King Communications and GraceNet Media Just a few months before graduating from a mission boarding school, the song “Lean on Me” by singer-songwriter Bill Withers was released. As we said our goodbyes and prepared to go our separate ways, this song was very special to our class of 1972 at Hillcrest in Nigeria. Don Campion, President, Banyan Air Service, and Team Lead, Egbe Medical Mission I was a big Simon & Garfunkel fan. They came out with the song “Mrs. Robinson” in 1968. It was very risqué for the time. Fred Scarbrough, DVM, Founder, Scarbrough Animal Hospital and HOPE South Florida “Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd… It starts out slow and finishes with everyone singing and dancing! Gregg Wallick, Wallick Family Office Awkwardly but honestly, I submit to you that my song was “Losing My Religion” by R.E.M. Don’t judge me! LOL Heather Palacios, Church by the Glades The song that comes to mind for the year of my graduation is Tina Turner’s “Simply The Best.” That’s what I wanted to be in my life. My mom always told me to be the best at whatever I did. To read lots of books and learn everything about business, history, world affairs and life. To pray and ask God to show me His purpose for me at an early age. That was my prayer, and He is Faithful! Helen Wayner P.A., Century 21 Hansen Realty “We Are the World” by U.S.A. for Africa. That song still sticks in my head to this day. Jennifer O'Flannery Anderson, Ph.D., President/CEO, Community Foundation of Broward Jars of Clay’s “Flood.” We all have times in life when we feel like we are drowning. I am so thankful that Jesus lifts us up when we fall. Jesse Carroccio, Station Manager, WRMB Moody Radio The song “Never Gonna Give You Up” by artist Rick Astley brings me back to memories of high school. Dr. Jessica Vera, President and CEO, Elite Foundation “Schooldays” from the Schoolboys In Disgrace album by The Kinks! It was our senior theme album, and we got the first three rows at Milwaukee Coliseum for the show. God save The Kinks! Joe Vitkus, Senior Rabbi, Temple Aaron Ha Kodesh “Take Me to the River” by Talking Heads. Utterly meaningless lyrics but fabulous ‘new’ music. James ‘JT’ Taylor, Managing Director, Automotive, Truist Securities William “Bill” C. Davell Bob Denison Char Talmadge Chip LaMarca Craig D. Huston Deborah Cusick Wants to Know… Larry Lacy
