Good News - August 2024

In my younger days, the Schoolboys In Disgrace concert in 1977 by The KINKS was my graduating seniors theme concert in Milwaukee. We had acquired the first three rows and it was incredible! I ended up going to 17 KINKS concerts in my life time. As a believer, there were so many, but CARMAN.at the Miami Arena was a favorite where we took a whole bus load of kids from Ft. Lauderdale. Joe Vitkus, Senior Rabbi, Temple Aron Ha Kodesh I skipped out on a mandatory missions week session at college and went to see MuteMath play with two guys from my dorm floor. It was a concert unlike anything I'd seen and the energy and performance was so high. Receiving an academic slap on the wrist "note" as a consequence was totally worth it. Justus Martin, Photographer, Justus Martin Photography My wife and I attended a Charlie Daniels concert, and it was an unforgettable experience. In the middle of the performance, the lights dimmed, and a spotlight illuminated a barstool chair on the stage. Charlie Daniels then came back on stage with his guitar and began to sing "How Great Thou Art." In that moment, all the Christians in attendance stood and raised their hands in awe and wonder, to sing and celebrate the greatness of our God. Ken Kerrigan, Pastor, Calvary Cornerstone Church A few years ago, at Amerant Arena in Sunrise. Jordan Feliz, Jeremy Camp and Toby Mac. The seats were great as well! Larry Lacy, Pastor, The Answer Church My husband produced U2’s Stuck in a Moment video and they were kind enough to give us tickets to their Miami concert. Singing “Streets Have No Name” with thousands of our fellow concert goers was a moving experience! Laura C. Bishop, Executive Vice President of Advancement, Palm Beach Atlantic University The "Tribute to Andrae Crouch" by the Church of All Nations in Boca Raton, stands out as one of the most memorable concerts I've attended. It was incredibly powerful for both my husband and me. Dr. Mary Drabik, President, South Florida Bible College and Theological Seminary Stange as it may sound for someone who likes music and has served on worship teams in the past, I have never been to a concert. Along with several members from my church, I did attend a gathering of churches from all over the country at an arena near Atlanta several years ago . All denominations were represented and the worship in that place was truly heavenly. Regardless of doctrine, the Lord was praised, and the goosebumps were raised!! Mike McDermott, PA, Seniors Real Estate Specialist, The Keyes Company The most memorable concert I ever attended was the Allman Brothers playing at my university. I was there early in the front row and watched the roadies set up. We even helped them a bit. Our reward was to meet the band after the show. Greg Allman and Dicky Betts were extremely friendly, as was the entire band. Great memories! Milan Stefanovic, Chief Operations & Personal Lines Officer, Bass Underwriters I have attended many concerts in NYC, Boston, Cleveland but the one that impacted me most was when I was just 10 years old and my parents took me to see the all men’s Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus under the direction of Hryhory Kytasty. The soulful music of the bandura ( a Ukrainian harp-like folk instrument ) with the richly blended mens’ voices singing tragic, comedic and military songs caught my heart. To this day I will go back periodically and listen to some of those recordings and again moved by their depth. Oksana Horton, Artistic Director, Torch and Trumpet Theatre Company The best concert I have attended was The Beach Boys about a year ago with my wife Faye. The fun and nostalgia of songs like “Surfin’ Safari” but another part of of attending The Beach Boys show locally, was how many other couples and friends we saw that we knew from church and other circles in our community. The music, the songs, and the crowd, (and of course ALL the Hawaiian shirts), and the beachballs being bounced throughout the audience….brought us all back to wonderful memories of the ‘care-free’ days of the 70s!!!! Coach Rick Andreassen, Founder/President, SAINTS International Sports Ministry and SAINTS Homeschool P.E. I do not get the chance to go to too many concerts, however, one of the best concerts that I remember attending was actually a fairly recent one that was in support of the organization, 4KIDS. The Christian artist, Austin French was performing and he did a fantastic job of sharing his testimony, singing high energy songs about Jesus as well as connecting with the audience. I had the pleasure of attending the concert with my wife and 4 children and my kids really loved the experience and wanted to listen to all of his songs after that. With the amazing worship music that I am blessed to be a part of at our church, it feels like every weekend is a concert, but I am thankful for opportunities to experience music that is enjoyable and honoring to God.
