OUT AND ABOUT 42 JULY 2023 www.goodnewsfl.org Good News • South Florida Edition BBX Capital Foundation presented over $100,000 in grants to seven Broward County nonprofit organizations that provide supportive services to local residents with mental health or co-occurring diagnoses during a Grant Presentation Reception at South Florida Wellness Network on June 20. BBX Capital Foundation partnered with Broward Behavioral Health Coalition (BBHC) who helped coordinate the event and identify the organizations who received the grants. BBHC is Broward County’s local behavioral health managing entity, which is responsible for the contracting, monitoring, clinical quality oversight and performance improvement of the statefunded behavioral health services. The seven non-profit organizations that received the grants from the BBX Capital Foundation included Tomorrow's Rainbow, SunServe, Equine Assisted Therapy, Canine Assisted Therapy, Henderson Behavioral Health, NAMI Broward, and South Florida Wellness Network. The organizations will use the funding to support a wide range of supportive services, such as housing, educational, employment and recreational activities, among others. During the event, Jarett Levan, president & CEO of BBX Capital, his wife Dara Levan, and Lois Marino, Executive Director of the BBX Capital Foundation and Director of Community Engagement at BBX Capital, presented the grants to each of the deserving recipients. Jarett Levan also spoke about the BBX Capital Foundation’s commitment to mental health wellness in our community. In addition, Broward County Vice Mayor Nan Rich and Silvia Quintana, CEO of BBHC, together spoke about BBHC’s 10-year anniversary/history and all the support that the organization provides to the community. They also thanked BBX Capital and the BBX Capital Foundation for their support and commitment to making a difference in our community. Susan Nyamora, CEO/President of South Florida Wellness Network, welcomed the attendees and passionately spoke about her mental health journey. Abby Mosher, Danica Mamby and Eileen Over $100,000 Donated to Nonprofits for Mental Health Related Services International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ) celebrated Israel’s 75th anniversary all month long in May. How did they celebrate? The ICEJ published Every Generation’s Story: 75 Years of American Christian Engagement with Israel, comprised of the testimonies of 18 Christians spanning over 5 generations to highlight the fact that for 75 years now, Israel has been a blessing to millions of Christians who have been able to travel there and experience their Bible come alive. On May 7, welcomed over 225 guests and 25 cosponsors to an evening of world-class musicians and keynote speaker Hananya Naftali from Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office during a Gala Dinner for Israel 75 in Nashville. A Washington, DC Gala Dinner for Israel 75 was held on May 17 with over 340 guests and 30 cosponsors enjoying an inspiring and informative evening. Speakers included Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Michael Herzog and Former White House Envoy to the Middle East Jason Greenblatt. An Israel Breakfast at the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Conference on May 24 sold-out, with 300 participants— both Jews and Christians—enjoying special music by ICEJ’s Vesna Buehler from Israel and a brilliant speech by Former Special Envoy for Monitoring and Combatting Antisemitism Elan Carr. “Our honoring of Israel’s 75th was one way we are able to stand with the Jewish people and let them know that they are not alone,” said Susan Michael, ICEJ USA Director in an email. “The ICEJ has been taking such a stand on a global level for some 43 years now. We are standing up for the Jewish people in the face of rising antisemitism.
