Good News - February 2023

As we launch into this New Year, Good News Wants to Know... What is your favorite quote - or words you live by - that may inspire others? Seek first to understand is a very simple yet guiding principle for me. Repeating this to myself when the world is swirling aroundme with its many pushes and pulls, keeps me focused and humble -- allowingme the space to truly listen and be intentional in words and actions. Germaine Smith Baugh, Ed.D, President and CEO, Urban League of Broward County The quote that I live by: Live beyond yourself! This I believe is the key to freedom and fruitfulness. I do not know who to ascribe this statement to; however, I think it encapsulates the very heart and philosophy of the teachings of Jesus - summed up in the concept of LOVE. Alan Platt, Doxa Deo/City Changers Honestly, one of the most personal and profound quote or statement that I purpose to live by came from the Holy Spirit. Jesus said follow ME and Not M-E-N. Bernard King Sr., Pastor, Cornerstone Bible Fellowship "Too low they build who build beneath the stars." This quote by Edward Young reminds me of Abraham of whom it was said: "Against all hope, Abraham, in hope believed…never wavering in his faith." William “Bill” C. Davell, Director, Tripp Scott Attorneys at Law "Sometimes you lie in bed at night, and you don't have a single thing to worry about. That always worries me."—Charlie Brown Bob Denison, President, Denison Yachting Short and sweet. It's beenmy saying for 25 years. “There are two sides to stories and one side to facts.” It's my job and passion to deliver them. Brian Mudd, Program Director, Host of The Brian Mudd Show We should all live by the golden rule, but a particular quote that I live by is this: “There is no limit to the amount of good you can do if you don't care who gets the credit.” - Ronald Reagan Chip LaMarca, State Representative, Florida House District 100 In every relationship or person I meet, I make it a goal for them to see Jesus in me (my actions, attitudes and words) “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). Chris Lane, President, First Priority of South Florida My favorite quote is: "Courage is not the absence of fear but the decision to trust God in spite of the fear." Ezra 3:3 tells us that the Jews continued their work on the altar, "...in spite of their fear..." I see this truth lived out in the lives of our law enforcement officials, firefighters and military as well as in the lives of many of my Christian brothers and sisters on a daily basis and am greatly thankful for that example. Lord, may we walk in that godly courage daily. Fidel Gomez, Pastor, Calvary Chapel Hollywood For 2023, a particular verse has been uniquely woven into my life and my professional calling. Nehemiah 6:9, "For they all wanted to frighten us, thinking, 'Their hands will drop from the work, and it will not be done.' But now, O God, strengthen my hands.” You see, though the landscape was hostile to everything God had called him to, Nehemiah didn’t ask for relief or escape; he asked God to strengthen his hands. As you enter each day, ask for strength, not escape; ask for steadfastness, not relief. Praise be that we don’t serve a pampering God but rather a perfecting one. Chris C. Simpson, President, CBMC International In addition tomany scriptures, I've been challengedbymartyredmissionary, JimElliot who said: "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gainwhat he cannot lose." Deborah Cusick, FAUCampus Volunteer, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship My favorite quote… “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:16-17). Dennis DeMarois, Executive Director/CEO, Gathering PalmBeach County Many famous quotes have inspired me, but none more powerfully than 1 Corinthians 13: 1-3. Without love, we have nothing, and we are nothing. We do not represent the Lord if we do not have love. "If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing." Dolores King-St. George, President, King Communications and GraceNet Radio “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” – Pericles. Don Campion, President, Banyan Air Service “Love one another as I have loved you...” Love brought me to Jesus as a young teen. It’s simple, perfect and unconditional. John 13:34 Helen Wayner P.A., Century 21 Hansen Realty I like a few quotes, but two immediately came into my memory as I read your email. "I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples." - Mother Teresa “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men/women to do nothing.” - Edmund Burke. Dr. Jessica Vera, President, Chief Executive Officer, Elite Foundation Bob Denison Brian Mudd Chip LaMarca Alan Platt Bernard King William “Bill” C. Davell Wants to Know… - Germaine Smith Baugh -
