Good News - March 2019
In our continued conversation with South Florida's community leaders, Good News Wants to Know... What's the last goodmovie you've seen, who starred in it, and did it have a message? The last good movie I saw with a mes- sage was “Run the Race.” There were no really famous actors or actresses in it, but the producer was Tim Tebow. Its message was that life is hard and throws some difficult things at us, but with faith we canmake it through. It was enjoyable, though challenging. H. Collins Forman, Jr ., P.A. The other day my wife and I watched “Woman in Gold,” starring Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds on television. I was wonderfully surprised. Bernard King , Sr., Pastor, Cornerstone Bible Fellowship “Green Book,” staring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali. God changing the hearts of two men who ultimately loved each other as brothers. William “Bill” C. Davell , Director, Tripp Scott Attorneys at Law A forty-minute documentary produced by the University’s School of Communication and Media on the Syrian refugee crisis in Jordan. Our students guided by our pro- fessors tell the amazing and uplifting story of four displaced families and their hope for the future. The film students traveled to Jordan twice during this project. The quality is superb and the stories riveting. William “Bill” Fleming , President, Palm Beach Atlantic University I saw “The Return of Mary Poppins,” starring Emily Blunt withmy wife and daughter about a month ago. The message I took away was dream big: God works through all circum- stances. Bill Hobbs , President/Founder, Urban Youth Impact Last good movie I saw was a few days ago on a plane. “Beautiful Boy” is a true story about a dad battling his son's addiction to drugs. The message was pretty clear: Fight. Don't give up. Love through all the hard parts. Bob Denison , President, Denison Yachting I recently watched the 2018 Documentary called “Won't You Be My Neighbor?” about the work of Fred Rogers. It starred Fred Rogers and his family, wife Joanne Rogers, and sons John Rogers and JimRogers. It had a tremendousmessage of working together with your community and staying true to your goals. Chip LaMarca , State Representative, Florida House District 93 I took my son and some of his friends as I was visiting him in college to see “Run the Race.” I had actually seen it prior to that in a private screening for ministry leaders, so I knew it was really good. It’s a Christian movie with a very good message of forgiveness, determination and family. I really like to support the Christian movies, and I was very im- pressed with “Run the Race” and I highly recommend it. The college students that I took really enjoyed it and all gleaned different things from it. Chris Lane , Executive Director, First Priority of South Florida The last good movie I saw was "The Least of These." It’s the true story of the Australian missionary GrahamStaines (played by Stephen Baldwin) and his family as they served a leper colony in India not long ago. Graham and two of his sons were martyred, but his wife forgave and remained serving the lepers for a total of 35 years. It's a story much like martyred Jim Elliot and Nate Saint whose wives remained serving the Auca Indians who had killed their husbands. That kind of forgiveness, grace and love could only come through our Lord! It mademe ask myself, "Am I willing to take on suffering to bring salvation to oth- ers – whatever the cost – just as Jesus did?" Deborah Cusick , FAU Campus Volunteer, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship The last good movie I've seen was “Creed II,” starring Micheal B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone. The compelling message of redemption, dealing with past failures, overcoming defeat, and reconciliation between fathers (and grandfathers) was encouraging and nos- talgic. Of course the boxing and training scenes are always inspiring too... especially for us wanna-be-athletes-again type of people. Dennis DeMarois , Director, The Gathering Palm Beach I recently watched the older movie, “Pearl Harbor,” starring Kate Beckinsale, Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett. Being in aviation, it is amazing the causality and destruction a surprise air attack can afflict on others. Living in unstable and uncertain times, the message that struck me was – the majority of people live in relative peace, thinking that everything is fine, yet will they be blindsided when death comes – much like the tragedy of 9/11. The most important days of our lives are today and the day we face eternity. Don Campion , President, Banyan Air Service Movie: Green Book Starred: Viggo Mortensen and MahershalaAli Message: It takes courage to change people's hearts. Doug Scott , CEO BMG Creative, Fortune Media Group and AsSeenOnTV.pro Last really goodmovingmovie was "I CanOnly Imagine," starring Dennis Quaid, JMichael Finley, Madeline Carrol and Trace Adkins. It was about God's love and His ability to help us overcome real life hurt and pain. The track song was what everyone has heard. What will it be like when we see Jesus! Fred Scarbrough , DVM, Founder, Scarbrough Animal Hospital and HOPE South Florida I saw “I Can Only Imagine” about the making of the song of the same name by the band MercyMe. The star was J. Michael Finley and themessage was that God works inmirac- ulous ways to bring about forgiveness and reconciliation even when we do not see a path. George R. Moraitis, Jr., Moraitis, Cofar, Karney, Moraitis & Quailey The very last movie I watched with my grandson Lincoln was “Teenage Ninja Turtles”... I’m not really very clear on a message...so let’s skip that. The last movie I watched was “What they Had,” with Hillary Swank. The message was so sweet and one I thinkmost of my friends are experiencing with their aging parents. It really demonstrated the devotion and deep love of a couple who have spent their whole life to- gether. I don’t think anyone can really understand the foolishness and yet how sweet it is unless you’ve experienced it yourself. Certainly, their kids couldn’t get it. They really un- derstood “until death do us part.” Awesome movie... tissues required. Linda Giambattista , Executive Director, Taylor’s Closet “Palau the Movie-One Man Millions of Souls” will be in theaters throughout the US and Latin America next month.
