OUT AND ABOUT 34 JANUARY 2019 Good News • South Florida Edition Taylor’s Closet, a nonprofit organization with a mission to empower teenaged girls in need, was awarded a $20,000 grant by the Celia Lipton Farris and Victor W. Farris Foundation Home CommunityFundof theCommu- nity Foundation of Broward. The grant through theCom- munity Foundation of Broward provides Taylor’s Closet the op- portunity to expand its reach and empower in-need teenaged girls by helping them improve their employability through the devel- opment of teaching, planning, speaking, and organizational skills. Specifically, the funds will allow 12 in-need girls to partici- pate in 40-hour long work-based readiness training at Taylor’s Closet located at 1227 N.E. 8th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. The girls will also hone their leader- ship skills by planning and lead- ing weekly meetings for the “Bloom” group at Fort Laud- erdale High School. Taylor’s Closet has part- nered with Fort Lauderdale High School and seen tremendous re- sults with the girls who have at- tended its programs for a one-year period; more than 90 percent of participants experi- enced improvements in atten- dance, behavior and GPA. “By training and encourag- ing our young future leaders to maximize their potential, our goal is to ensure that each girl who participates in the program will achieve useful experience for employment and empowering them to live happy, healthy, and productive lives,” added Linda Giambattista, Executive Director of Taylor’s Closet For information, visit taylorscloset.org .
