OUT AND ABOUT 30 JULY 2018 Good News • South Florida Edition During JM Family Enter- prises’ fifth annual Spring into Giving campaign in May, the or- ganization mobilized its more than 4,200 associates in a fight against food insecurity. This year, through a series of ‘End Hunger Games’ themed competitions, the company raised more than $116,000 to support its food bank partners in five states. Here in South Florida, JM Family’s Deerfield Beach head- quartersexceeded$87,000 indo- nations to support Feeding South Florida’s (FSF) ongoingmission to provide families with nutritious meals. This total surpassed last year’s campaign donation by more than30percent. Local asso- ciates also volunteered their time, sorting nearly 63,000 pounds of food, which equals more than 52,000meals provided to food in- secure individuals fromthroughout South Florida. FSF, amember of the Feed- ing America network of food banks, annually rescues 46 mil- lion pounds of food, serving 706,130 individuals in need of food assistance from Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. As part of JM Family's phil- anthropic efforts, associates share their time, talents and re- sources to improve the quality of life in the communities in which they live and work. JM Family’s corporate giving efforts are fo- cused on four areas – empower- ing families and nurturing children, providing for essential needs, promoting education and preserving the environment. On Wednesday, June 6th, Arc Broward celebrated the graduation of their students from both their preschool and School of Hire Education programs. Arc Broward’s preschool had 20 students walk across the stage. The school’s teamof cer- tified teachers and licensed ther- apists provides early education and therapy services for children with developmental disabilities ages 18months through 5 years to optimize each student’s de- velopmental growth. Arc Broward’s School of Hire Education had 9 students graduate and take the next steps toward their career. Un- like your typical graduation, students received A-list treat- ment and dressed to impress with the help of Beauty Anatomy Institute who pam- pered them with makeovers for their Hollywood Red Car- pet evening. Along with receiv- ing their certificate of completion, teachers handed out superlative awards repli- cating an Oscar ceremony. The School of Hire Education serves students ages 18 to 22, in obtaining career and work- force education skills to pre- pare and achieve the career path of their choice. School of Hire grads have gone to pur- sue careers in Entry-level Culi- nary Arts, Electronics Recycling, Child and/or Elder Care, and Administrative work.
