OUT AND ABOUT 56 DECEMBER 2018 Good News • South Florida Edition Covenant House Florida, a non-profit agency that pro- vides shelter and program- ming to children and youth who are homeless or at risk, announced a landmark one- million-dollar donation from City Furniture. The generous contribu- tion, which came during Na- tional Homeless Awareness Month, is the lead gift that kicks off the Covenant House Florida statewide $10 million fundraising campaign, “Our Great Promise: Florida’s Fu- ture.” Funds raised will expand the agency’s facilities and pro- gramming to meet the growing needs of the children and youth who face homelessness in Florida. In South Florida, Covenant House Florida will relocate from its aging beach- side shelter in Fort Lauderdale to a new facility more centrally located within Broward County. That new building will be named after Kevin Koenig, late brother of Keith Koenig, CEO of City Furniture. “Keith Koenig and City Furniture have been incredibly supportive of Covenant House Florida for more than 23 years,” said Covenant House Florida Capital Campaign Di- rector Jim Gress. In Orlando, the donation will fund services available through the Covenant House Florida outreach van that of- fers assistance to youth, in- cluding food, blankets, hygiene supplies, basic first aid, crisis counseling, informa- tion about agency services, and bus tickets to local re- sources. The donation coin- cides with City Furniture opening its first of three new showrooms in Orlando.
