Passionately Curious

“I have no special talent. I

am only passionately curious.”

- Albert Einstein

It’s a little daunting to use

a quote by Albert Einstein and

suggest we have anything in

common. Admittedly, the only

way I overlap in any way with

the theoretical physicist who

developed the theory of relativ-

ity is when I go to an Einstein’s

bagel shop, but I am curious.

I share that curiosity in

pondering: how do we best ex-

pand and grow our village in

our faith and at Good News as

we serve?

Since taking over the lead-

ership of Good News a few

months ago, I am all-consumed

with: are we relevant and to

whom? I draw on my past ex-

periences: what will i t take and

will it address the needs of our

kingdom and satisfy our pas-

sion?

We have collectively used

this summer as our think-tank

with the goal of introducing

new Good News initiatives

commencing with our Septem-

ber issue and with the curiosi-

ty of how will we trend for our

future as we endeavor to serve

and grow the tent of believers.

Good News will serve as

a platform for those in need of

voice and location to inform,

enlighten and sometimes en-

tertain; we will see together as

we explore together.

“And he said unto them, it

is not for you to know the times

or the seasons, which the Fa-

ther hath put in his own power”

(Acts 1:17 KJV).

As we enjoy the last days

of summer and ready ourselves

and family for a new school

year, we look for yet another

season of spiritual growth and

renewal of purpose.

We Get Letters...

Dear Leslie,

Thank you so much to you

and your staff for the Cover Pho-

to of father and son embracing

on the Broward Edition Good

News June 2017 newspaper. The

picture, comprised of an African

American father and son during

what appears to be a graduation,

resonated with me. I am an Afri-

can Americanmale and too often

I see such negative images of Afri-

can Americans in the media and

in advertising. For example, ad-

vertisements for Broward Coun-

ty Transit (BCT) buses promot-

ing an end to homelessness all

have colored faces such as mine.

However, during my four years

of living in Hollywood, Florida,

there were a large number of

European Americans that were

homeless versus other races. The

same is true for BCT ads promot-

ing an end to HIV/AIDS. All of

the ads depict African Ameri-

cans with no European Amer-

icans present. Yet I personally

know of persons who are white

who suffer with AIDS. In my cul-

ture, such practices are known

as institutional racism. Thank

you for breaking down barriers

for minorities to be viewed in a

favorable/positive light in the lo-

cal mainstream media. Because

of your generosity in this regard,

I am going to approach my boss,

an African American female, to

see if she would like to advertise

her business in the Good News

Florida Broward Edition news-

paper. Thank you again.

Sincerely,

Ken K.
