Good News - June 2026

66 JUNE 2026 www.goodnewsfl.org Good News • South Florida Edition COMMUNITY NEWS Associates from AutoNation, Inc. were honored to fulfill Meucine Jean’s greatest hope of becoming a homeowner by presenting her and her children with the key to a brand-new home they helped build together through Habitat for Humanity of Broward. In addition to associates completing 300 hours of sweat equity with Jean and her family, the total dollar amount of AutoNation’s home sponsorship was $100,000. The dedication ceremony took place recently at BBI Village, 1900 Northwest 10th Avenue, in Fort Lauderdale, a community that AutoNation helped build during Habitat for Humanity of Broward’s CEO Build in 2025 and 2026. A single mother, Jean has been working hard as a registered nurse for Aetna/CVS since 2014, bringing compassion and excellence to patient care while raising five children with the same positive values and commitment to education her mother modeled in Little Haiti. “Family means everything to me, and I have dreamed of owning a home in a safe neighborhood where my children could play outside,” Jean said. This dream has proved to be an uphill battle for Jean whose rent is more than half her income, leaving little for savings. “On behalf of AutoNation, I congratulate Meucine for her determination and unwavering dedication to her family,” said Lisa Ryans, Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Communications for AutoNation and Habitat for Humanity Board Member. Marking a century of uninterrupted service in Broward County, The Salvation Army commemorated its centennial from May 15 to 17 with a series of moving community events. More than an institution, the organization has stood as a promise of dignity, compassion, and hope for thousands of families. The centennial committee prepared three historic days. Celebrations began Friday with the Centennial Concert, performed by the divisional band led by Dr. Adely Charles. On Saturday, attendees enjoyed the Legacy Walk, an interactive journey through the organization’s rich history, which culminated in a grand centennial gala. The banquet featured Lieutenant Colonel William Crabson and presented special awards to outstanding partners and volunteers. Major Juan Guadalupe, Area Commander, presented Carol Stevenson with the Legacy Soldier Award, and Kevin B. Kelleher, Deputy County Administrator, was presented with the Community Partner Award. The weekend concluded with a Sunday of Worship and Gratitude, enriched by an inspiring message from Colonel Ron Busroe. "I see that promise kept every single day in the mother who finds rest in our shelter and in the volunteer who serves before sunrise," said Guadalupe. Putting faith into action, the institution proudly begins its next one hundred years of service.
