47 APRIL 2026 www.goodnewsfl.org Good News • South Florida Edition WORLD I am sure you are well aware that in the early hours of Saturday, March 1, the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation to bring down the evil Iranian regime of Ayatollah Khamenei. Iran struck back, sending missiles and drones into Israel, driving Israelis back into their bomb shelters. Our prayer is that this will be the war that ends war for the foreseeable future. It has the potential to realign the Middle East, if not the entire world, and Israel could be in a much stronger position with greater potential for peaceful relations with its Arab neighbors. In this month’s Word From Jerusalem magazine, I wrote an article titled “10 Developments Affecting Israel.” My first point was that Israel had been victorious on seven fronts of war last year, but their enemies still existed, and therefore, the threat of renewed war remained. Iran was behind the enemies on all seven fronts, so the collapse of the regime could mean the collapse of their proxies, such as Hezbollah. We can only pray this will be so. The really amazing part of this war is its timing. It began on the Sabbath before the Feast of Purim, which commemorates the defeat of Haman in the book of Esther. Haman was an evil leader in the Persian Empire (today’s Iran) who was a descendant of Amalek and sought to annihilate the Jews. Haman was executed on the very gallows he had built to murder Mordecai. This particular Sabbath is known as the Sabbath of Remembrance, when worshipers read Deuteronomy 25:17–19, which begins with “Remember what Amalek did to you” and ends with the directive, “You will blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.” On this very Sabbath, the evil personification of everything Amalek and Haman stood for—Khamenei—was killed in an Israeli air strike. Two days later the celebration of Purim began, and all of Israel celebrated from bomb shelters the end of the modern-day Haman, who had threatened them with annihilation for decades. This timing affirms the sovereignty of God. He wanted His people to know that it was not military might that had brought about this victory, but He had answered their prayers. He had freed them from yet another tyrant seeking their destruction.
