41 may 2025 www.goodnewsfl.org Good News • South Florida Edition COMMUNITY NEWS The Community Foundation of Broward secured $10 million in ongoing support for the Broward Center for Nonprofit Excellence – a go-to resource for strengthening nonprofits that help residents throughout our community. The Community Foundation launched the Nonprofit Center in 2022 to provide training and other tools that amplify nonprofits’ critical community impact. At the same time, the Community Foundation committed to raising permanent support to fuel the Nonprofit Center’s work for generations to come. An early $5 million matching grant commitment from the Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation jump-started fundraising and helped launch Nonprofit Center operations. This critical early support enabled the Nonprofit Center to begin in-person and online training sessions for nonprofit professionals and volunteers. It also fueled the creation of the Nonprofit Center website, which features a resource library, nonprofit directory, consultant registry and other helpful tools for nonprofit success. Now the Community Foundation has secured the last of the $5 million in additional support to reach the $10 million milestone. This includes establishing an endowment, which ensures permanent, sustainable support for the Nonprofit Center. It’s all made possible by partnerships with philanthropists committed to championing the vital work of Broward’s nonprofits. This faithbased initiative unites local congregations from across Broward County to help fund and build a new home for a deserving family in need of safe, affordable workforce housing. Volunteers, known as “Apostles,” came together to be the hands and feet of Christ and work alongside future homeowners, core volunteers, and construction supervisors. The 12 Churches that participated include: Rio Vista Church, First Baptist Fort Lauderdale, First Presbyterian Church of Pompano Beach (The Pink Church), First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale, St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Crossway Church, Greenhouse Church of South Florida, United Church of Christ Fort Lauderdale, Church by the Sea, Grace Wesleyan Church, City Rev Church and Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. Apostles Build is a transformational partnership where twelve churches each contribute $10,000 and volunteer support, collectively sponsoring the $120,000 cost needed to build a new home for a deserving family.
