Good News - February 2025

i o w s p f t s s u h a J r o p b " p b e g sl oi t This is a hard one... Things in life don't always go the way we expect. Good News Wants to Know... What has been your greatest disappointment and how have you dealt with it Looking back on my life, I would say my greatest disappointment is the pain I caused others during the times I was living selfishly. The only true remedy for this has been my relationship with God and a deeper understanding of His grace. Antony Tchividjian, Director - Calvary House, Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale My greatest disappointment has been to see some family members, friends and coworkers taste and see the Lord’s goodness, hear the Gospel and fail to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. I have dealt with this disappointment by coming to understand and believe that God is good, all the time. He is the one who saves, and I trust His will. William “Bill” C. Davell, Director, Tripp Scott On January 19, 1977, it snowed here in Fort Lauderdale. The day after I was welcomed into the world by the good people at Broward General (and my mom who said I was very polite and easy). It hasn’t snowed here since, making me one of the longest living residents that’s never seen snow in their backyard. I’ve dealt with it by getting a small boat and enjoying all the non-snow days here best I can. Bob Denison, President, Denison Yachting An easy response could be a work or political related answer, such as why my colleagues refused to allow me to serve a term as Mayor during my time on the Broward County Board of County Commissioners. However, real disappointment for me has always been losing my father before I was one year old. Although sad and unfortunate, I dealt with this by embracing my mother for all of the amazing sacrifices that she made for my brother and me. I also had the benefit of strong role models like my grandfather and my uncle/godfather who is a Catholic priest. They all helped shape me into the man I was growing up, and my wife has made me the man I am today. Chip LaMarca, State Representative, Florida House District 100 When God closed the door for me to be a professional musician, I was quite sad. However, when the LORD led me from my Godless, selfish pursuits into a personal relationship with him, that was the best thing that ever happened to me. H. Collins Forman, P.A. Probably my greatest disappointment in life was the failure of my marriage and not having children because of my husband's unfaithfulness. Since I didn't get to have children, Isaiah 54 is a description of my fulfilling life - that the barren woman will have more children than the married - and God has been faithful to give me scores of spiritual children worldwide. Also, as I learned to forgive, I had the opportunity to help other marriages survive and even thrive after infidelity. But the best result is, in my broken state, I met Jesus as my Savior and Lord! Deborah Cusick, FAU Campus Volunteer, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship My greatest disappointments are youthful promiscuity, losing children AND friends who have died that I did not tell about Jesus before their deaths. Life is fleeting, opportunities are to be cherished, personal choices matter and learning that God can be trusted is priceless. “But in your hearts revere Christ. Always be prepared to give an Answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15-16, NIV). Dennis DeMarois, Executive Director/CEO, Gathering Palm Beach County The greatest disappointment in my life has been the times that I've brought pain and sorrow to my wife because of my selfishness. The Apostle Paul says that we should do nothing out of selfish ambition (Philippians 2:1-5). He tells us that our attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus. O, how I wish I could say that I always think of others before I think of me, but I'm still working on that one. I am so thankful and forever grateful to my Lord Jesus that He's kept my wife and I together for 53 years. Other than Jesus, Theresa is my greatest treasure. Fidel Gomez, Pastor One year ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. I have committed myself to daily exercise and stretching as well as switching to a Mediterranean diet. Most of all I am praying that God’s will be done! Dr. Fred Scarbrough, Founder, Scarbrough Animal Hospital and HOPE South Florida My biggest disappointment is my youngest brother giving up. I have been tempted by suicide for 43 years, but I am still here — running my nonprofit, Wondherful, to help others be here too. But that about took me out with whispers of “you couldn’t help your brother; how do you expect to help strangers?” Thankfully I have a big mouth, and I use it to shout over those whispers with God’s truth: “For He has decided the length of our lives” (Job 14:5). Heather Palacios, Founder, Wondherful, Inc There are disappointments in life, and as everyone does, I’ve had a few. The most painful are in relationships. It’s personal and touches your heart. Forgiveness brings healing. It is then you realize God has a plan. Helen Wayner, P.A., Century 21 Hansen Realty My greatest disappointment was learning that my daughter had a brain tumor. Not knowing that today she would be cancer-free, we committed as a family to stick together and trust the Lord with each step. God was/is faithful!! Jesse Carroccio, Station Manager, WRMB Moody Radio There is one thing we are promised that most of us prefer to ignore, the Word tells us that we will face trials and tribulations. One of the hardest I’ve walked through has been the loss of a relationship that I thought would last a lifetime. It is only by God’s grace that the experience has refined me rather than buried me in the pain of disappointment and unforgiveness. Our God is the master of restoration using all for our good.
