More than 250 people attended Broward Right to Life’s annual Benefit Breakfast on Saturday, November 16, at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale. “It was such an inspiration to be with so many like-minded people. I left energized and encouraged,” said one attendee. The Breakfast keynote speaker, Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King and the founder of Speak for Life, told her story of two past abortions and how her 1983 conversion to Christ led to her pro-life commitment. Dr. King said her mother planned to have an abortion while pregnant with Alveda, but her grandfather intervened to save his grandchild and spare Alveda’s life. Dr. King encouraged the local pro-life community to do more pro-life education in the wake of the near passage of Amendment 4 in November. The abortion measure fell just short of the 60% needed to pass, with 57% support. A mere 43% voted against the amendment. She emphasized that the abortion industry will try again to write unlimited abortion into the state constitution and called for action now, especially education, to be ready when that happens. “We have work to do, but there is momentum after this historic election,” said Tewannah Aman, executive director of Broward Right to Life. “Many are hopeful that the tide is turning, and revival is in the air. We will do all we can to engage, educate and equip our community with the ability to speak out in defense of Life.” 62 december 2024 www.goodnewsfl.org Good News • South Florida edition COMMUNITY NEWS Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King and founder of Speak for Life, and Tewannah Aman, executive director, Broward Right to Life, and John Aman, president, Broward Right to Life Dr. Alveda King Addresses Pro-Life Benefit Breakfast
