OUT AND ABOUT 48 SEPTEMBER 2023 www.goodnewsfl.org Good News • South Florida Edition Fr. Frank Pavone, the founder and president of Priests for Life, prayed for an end to abortion with more than 70 pro-life advocates on Saturday, August 12, on the sidewalk outside the East Cypress Women's Center abortion facility at 962 East Cypress Creek Road in Fort Lauderdale. The purpose of the gathering was to pray for an end to abortion, for the closure of the abortion facility and others in the state of Florida, for the defeat of the pro-abortion amendment Planned Parenthood wants to put on the 2024 ballot and for full legal protection to be restored to babies in Florida from conception onward. Tewannah Aman, Executive Director of Broward Right to Life, said, “We had over 70 people join us on Saturday, and it was so inspiring!!!” Since many people are unaware that this is an abortion facility, Aman said, “We are bringing awareness to what they really do and offering resources to those going in for an abortion, so they know that abortion is not their only choice. For them, we hope to be a light in a very dark place.” As part of its ongoing commitment to philanthropy, BBX Capital Foundation, with support from the South Florida community, partnered together for their annual Back-To-School Initiative. The funds raised were used to donate approximately 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to several non-profit organizations including, Big Brothers, Big Sisters; ChildNet; Pace Center for Girls; Children’s Diagnostic Treatment Center; and a local church, in anticipation of the upcoming 2023/2024 school year. The donations from the South Florida community came from a fundraiser that Hoffman’s Chocolates, a BBX Capital Company, held from July 14 through July 31 at its stores in Greenacres, Boca Raton, Palm Beach Gardens, Delray Beach, and Plantation. Customers who donated $5.00 towards a backpack initiative received a coupon for a Free Hoffman’s Chocolates ice cream sundae valid through September 30. The delicious sundae consists of 2 scoops of ice cream, 2 toppings, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. BBX Capital Employees participated in a day of donating and distributing backpacks to non-profit organizations who help local children in need.
