Mangurian Jr. Foundation and Memorial Healthcare System, as well as donors and attendees. Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies also recognized outstanding community members who have significantly contributed to the betterment of women, children, and families in Broward County. This group of individuals has each exemplified exceptional kindness, caring sacrifice, and generosity to families and children throughout the community. The honorees received the following awards: Lefkow Legacy Award: Melida Akiti; Father of the Year: Bill Feinberg; Mother of the Year: Amy Freund, Kate Goldman, Jessica Grenat, Heidi Alzate Kaufman, Dara Levan, Traci Miller, Dr. Amoy Reid, Dr. Sharetta Remikie, Jennifer Smith, and Cindy Teeto. Love In the Name of Christ hosted a National Day of Prayer gathering on Thursday, May 4th at Community Christian Church, in Tamarac. Bill Davis, associate pastor, of Community Christian Church, welcomed those who came to pray, emphasizing the importance of unity in the body of Christ. Sherese James-Grow, executive director of Love In the Name of Christ, introduced each of the speakers who prayed for seven key prayer points: the power of prayer, the importance of the Word, the family unit, the younger generation, the local church, Christians in the marketplace, government leaders and the big Church. Inaneffort tosupport theongoing fight against drunk driving and drugged driving, over 1,000 runners, walkersand residentsof South Florida participated in the 12th Annual UKG & The Salah Foundation Walk Like MADD&MADDDashFort Lauderdale5Kpresentedby theSheriff’s Foundation of Broward CountyandUBSonMay7, 2023. The event raised over $225,000 to benefit MADD Broward & Palm Beach’s community education, victim support services and youth prevention programs. Participants gathered for the in-person race near Huizenga Plaza in Fort Lauderdale. Alcohol-related traffic deaths jumped to more than 13,000 for the first time since 2006. 13,384 people were killed in alcohol-related traffic crashes in 2021 – that’s one person every 39minutes and 37 people a day killed by someone’s choice to drive drunk. The event was attended by dignitaries including Walk Like MADD Fort Lauderdale Founder and Honorary Chairperson Heather Geronemus, Broward County Sheriff Tony Gregory, BrowardCountyCommissioner Michael Udine and Major Robert Chandler from FloridaHighwayPatrol. Geronemus’ late father, Dr. Robert Perry Geronemus, was struck and killed by a drunk driver in 2009. The annual Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K is a communitydriven 5K that raises awareness about drunk driving and underage drinking while uniting community members around MADD’s mission. Since it was established in 2011, this event has raised more than $3.7 million that stays in the South Florida community to save lives and support victims of drunk driving.
