Good News - June 2022

47 JUNE 2022 www.goodnewsfl.org Good News • South Florida Edition OUT AND ABOUT After a two-year hiatus, BiG Cardio came back this year. And what fun it was! If you’re not familiar with the event, it is a fun community event that takes place annually on the first Saturday in May to raise awareness of National Foster Care month, and to benefit teens in foster care through BiG Children’s Foundation. The event includes a 5K run or walk, fitness classes, sports tournaments and lots of activities, entertainment, booths, food and a fun zone for all ages. Businesses, churches, groups, and schools form teams and come out for a day of smiles, fellowship, and fun. For the first time ever, finisher medals were awarded to all who participated, along with a colorful matching t-shirt to commemorate the day. Entertainment included a cheer team stunt demo, a performance from an up-and-coming Christian rapper, and a super-fun dance hour full of “old-school” favorites like Staying Alive, YMCA, Shout, and the all-time childhood favorite… The Hokey Pokey! “We take corporate responsibility seriously, so we reserve tents every year and bring our team of employees and their families. It’s so rewarding to know that the event proceeds benefit teens in foster care” says Jacqueline Maestri, VP Global Services for Johnson & Johnson. Good News had a booth there, along with many other local businesses. “We’re very thankful for the community’s support. The cherry on top was seeing our beautiful American flag flying high in the air from the ladder of the red BSO Fire Truck,” said Joyce Feldman.
