Good News - February 2021

We Get Letters Dear Editor, I wrote concerning all the backlash against Ravi Zacharias, after his death, which means he has no way to offer a response or defense against his accusers. Even worse, it brings to light our bad Evangelical habit of 'Killing and Eating our own.' It seems Evangelicals insist that their leaders be com- pletely free from any and all sins. A standard that not one single Bible Hero ever upheld, outside of Jesus Himself. Last year, the target was James MacDonald, a gifted preacher of strong biblical truth, who apparently did something wrong, and now he is written off as a worthless sinner. Amidst the scandal and malicious talk, let’s not forget that Ravi Zacharias was one heck of an Apologist, who reasoned, debated, and proclaimed the Truth of the Gospel to skeptical crowds all over the world. Whether or not he is guilty of these allegations, should not cancel out all of the good he did. Consider the great heroes of the Bible. Almost all of them had some serious sin in their lives. * King David, an adulterer AND murderer, who also had multiple wives and concubines. Yet was STILL the Man after Gods own heart. *Solomon, the most wise and blessed King ever, whose beloved Proverbs we often quote and seek to live by, was also the world's most notorious womanizer, with hundreds of wives and concubines. (SEX SLAVES) * Abraham, who TWICE sold out his wife Sara to be raped, abused, etc...just to save his own hide. Yet he was still the Father of all who follow Christ, and the one whom God called 'His Friend'. * Moses murdered a man before being called to lead Israel out of Egypt * The Apostle Paul persecuted and murdered Christians before his conversion. Then he became the most influential Apostle of all. * Rahab was a career prostitute, but she trusted God and protected the spies, and is one of the few listed in the Hebrews 11 'Faith Hall of Fame.' So if we let these accusations cancel out all the good that RZ did, then we must be con- sistent and condemn David, Solomon, Paul, Abraham, and the rest of those 'Faith Heroes' we read about in Hebrews 11. Which means, we need to throw out most of the Bible, except for the passages spoken directly by Jesus. Because virtually every other word in Scripture, including the Torah, penned by Moses, was received by the Holy Spirit, and written by sinners like Ravi.
