Good News - June 2020
The Rotary Club of Weston, along with the Vernon Carey Foundation and Memorial Foundation, hosted a thank you BBQ for over 200 National Guard soldiers and healthcare workers from the Memorial Healthcare System on May 5. These workers have been tire- lessly testing thousands of people for coronavirus at C.B. Smith Park in Pembroke Pines and this was a way to thank them for all that they are doing for the community. While taking necessary safety precautions, Rotarians, along with former Miami Hurricanes and Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Vernon Carey and his sons Vernon Carey, Jr. and Jaylen Carey, set up food pre- pared by Chef Larry & Family Catering once the testing site closed for the day. Freedland Harwin Valori, PL Partner Michael Freedland and his two children began the Rotary Feeds the Front Line initiative only one month ago. The mission of Rotary Feeds the Front Line is to meet the food needs of the heroes on the front line of this crisis, as well as residents in need. At the same time, all food is pur- chased from local restaurants and catering businesses to help support them as well. To date, the initiative has fed over 250 families in need through- out the community and over 1,700 frontline workers. If you would like to donate to help feed local families in need and front line workers during this crisis, you can visit www.rotaryfeeds.com for easy payment and to read more about the project. www.goodnewsfl.org 41 JUNE 2020 OUT AND ABOUT Thank You BBQ Held for National Guard, Law Enforcement and Healthcare Workers Jim Norton, Angelo Deveaux, Julie Ann Dinda, Emily Wallace, Corlette Deveaux, Emilie Smith, Michael Sayih, Jim Sayih Julie Ann Dinda, Emily Wallace and Corlette Deveaux
