Good News - September 2019

PUBLISHER 4 SEPTEMBER 2019 www.goodnewsfl.org Good News • South Florida Edition The Divide is Widening I see what's happening but why? When did it start? Young people today seem less engaged and less re- spectful than in generations past. Every generation feels this, but today's world rings different than past generations. That too can be debated and supported as not necessarily the case, but really? The Bible warns: “Respect your father and mother” is the first commandment that has a promise added: “so that all may go well with you, and you may live a long time in the land” (Ephesians 6:2-3). We live in a techno world today like never before. When my daughter Ariel was about nine, I like many parents asked my darling precious cute little techno monster, "Ariel, could you please help me program my new iPhone?” I was wanting some fa- ther-daughter time, but Ariel as I recall said, "Daddy, what do you need?” Grabbing the iPhone from my awkward grip, she went slap, dash and done....”What else, Daddy?" “Ariel??? How do you know how to do all that?” And Ariel said, "Daddy, I'm a kid and that's what we do!" iPhones, computer laptops, anything and everything we need electronically pro- grammed we go-to and seek a kid. My, how times have changed. When I was a kid we knew about music, fashion, fads and lingo; that's it. We as children learned from teachers and adults. The kids TODAY teach the adults about the new world of "how-to" matriculate through the world: technology, GOOGLE, Twit- ter, and SEO, the new A,B,C's of life in the fast-lane. This is how it happened. How are kids supposed to respect and learn when THEY in their minds are the teachers? In their minds they are the leaders and in- ventors of the “new world” we seem to know so little about, and they have been living since birth. They feel they can learn so little from adults that its proved to them every day in such transparency, like never before at any time in history. "You naive ones, how long will you love naivety And how long will scoffers delight in scoffing or fools hate knowledge?" (Proverbs 1:22). They now openly say, "Yeah, we want change – any change that doesn't come from the society you people screwed up," looking upwards to global warming, civil unrest, everything . Wow, starting to get the gist? Comprendes, por favor? “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves” (Matthew 10:16 KJV). I only do theories not solutions! Les South Florida Edition • Good News • September 2019 • Volume 21, Issue 6 - Leslie J.
