Good News - March 2019

MOVIES 36 MARCH 2019 Good News • South Florida Edition Abby Johnson was still in college when she first encoun- tered Planned Parenthood at an on-campus information booth. A representative for the abortion provider told her it existed to help women — and Abby was sold. She didn’t know at the time the organization was the nation’s leading abortion provider. In short order, Abby began volunteering in 2001 at a Planned Parenthood facility in Bryan, Texas. One of her first re- sponsibilities was to escort women coming for an abortion. She often encountered individu- als from the 40 Days for Life out- reach. They stood in front of the abortion facility, praying and of- fering resources to encourage women to choose life for their un- born child. Abby quickly climbed the ranks of the organization to be- come a clinic director, the youngest in Planned Parent- hood’s history. This is when she began to see a dark side. Abby stated, “Planned Parenthood doesn’t make its money on pro- moting contraception or family planning, but through abortion.” She realized that abortions fuel Planned Parenthood’s money machine. But she still believed shewas helpingwomen in crisis. In fact, she counseled thousands of women to get an abortion. But onSeptember 29, 2009, Abby’s life changed forever. She was asked to assist with an ultra- sound-guided abortion, which was not a part of her regular du- ties. What she saw on the ultra- sound screen will be etched in her mind forever. “I could see the whole profile of the baby: 13 weeks, head to foot. I could see thewhole side profile. I could see the probe. I could see the baby try to move away from the probe." She had seen ultra- sounds before, but never one on an unborn child. She couldn’t believe it! A human life. An unborn child with a beating heart. Her thoughts were, “Never again! What am I doing?” She submitted her resig- nation nine days later. "I looked out the window and saw a cou- ple of women praying and I thought, that's where I need to go," Johnson said. She left Planned Parent- hood and joined forces with the 40 Days for Life ministry. She began standing outside the Planned Parenthood facility where she formerly worked, of- fering help and hope to those going in for an abortion proce- dure. It was an amazing change of heart.Abby Johnsonwas now pro-life. She later formed And Then There Were None, a ministry providing resources to abortion workerswho are transitioning out of the industry. Since its incep- tion,Abby’s outreach has helped 430 workers leave the abortion industry. Johnson told her gripping story in her popular 2011 book, Unplanned. And now the book has become a movie with a na- tionwide release date of March 29, 2019. It’s a dramatic and eye- opening account of what really goes on behind abortion facility doors. “WhenUnplanned comes to theaters, this movie will make abortion unpopular,” said Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzel- man, whowrote and directed the film. “This is the most important movie anyone will ever see on the most controversial issue of our time.” God rescued Johnson and He’s now using her story to im- pact the world for life.
