Good News - June 2019

PUBLISHER 4 JUNE 2019 www.goodnewsfl.org Good News • South Florida Edition Responsibility or Obligation? "Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds" (Proverbs 27:23, NIV). I'm not responsible , but I feel I have an obligation to do something, simply because I care, and as part of one's job or role in leadership. Each Monday we meet as a group to set the agenda and expecta- tions for the week at the Good News ; we open in prayer asking for God’s wisdom, focus, determination, health and stamina to faithfully approach each challenge with excellence to honor God’s desire to spread the Good News throughout our community. A huge part of our efforts depend on health and stamina otherwise we lose focus and determination. The Summer months are here, and it gets hot and muggy. We all know that. As I look into each teammember’s eyes on Mondays, I feel that obligation to not only pray for good health but to be pro-active in "giving careful attention to your herds," and so we discussed what makes good health and what are we going to do about it? We discussed our "intake" about eating healthy, back off the pasta, starch, ice-cream, sugar....simple can-do things – and to back away from the table and leave 20 percent uneaten (if you’re out, doggie-bag the 20 percent if it's delicious). Yes, that last 20 percent will go into the garbage can, and guilt may tempt you to eat it. NOW you have to make a decision: Am I wasteful if it's thrown in the garbage can? Or more importantly, if I eat it, am I NOW that garbage can? Trust me, that poor kid in India will never get that 20 percent uneaten food anyway, no how. Selfishly, I want – I need everyone to be healthy because they are like family, but also to maintain stamina and focus. After getting an "I'm on-board" look from everyone, we started a team requested accountability pro- gramwith a voluntary Monday morning weigh-in program. I went toWal-Mart and picked up a digital scale. Those things are dirt cheap, but oh so powerful and mind altering when the reality of flashing escalating numbers fly through the screen and each of us opens our yellow folder to record this week's tally. Our goal is simple: less than last week but never more than the last week. We've got this. Les South Florida Edition • Good News • June 2019 • Volume 21, Issue 3 - Leslie J.
