LIFEWORK LEADERSHIP GoodNewsFL.org 15 FEBRUARY 2019 Readers Saving Coupons about this thing called Lifework. He said, “Now that you have your business and you’re doing this thing, you should think about Life- work Leadership. GN - What were your initial thoughts about Lifework, and what did you get out of it? Brent - My initial thought was, I don’t have time. I need to focus on growing the business, but I also just felt like I should give it a try. I was hesitant at first, but there were a lot of people I respected who had done it and recommended it to me… I think Lifework Leadership for me was just another step of getting connected into the South Florida community of believers. And the thing I loved about Lifework were the topics: integrity, generosity, compassion, humility, courage and legacy. All topics that as a business leader you want to understand. How do you relate to each of those areas, and how do you create an envi- ronment at work where you are intentional about reinforcing those items in your life and your business? Then through Lifework you get connected with people that are a part of different ministries. You get involved with Heart2Heart, or 4KIDS or you learn about things like Trail Map for Life, a father-son or a family mentoring programwith your kids with 10 key areas to get right. I loved the diversity of the people attending Lifework. Life- work wasn’t so much a networking thing for me from a business perspective, it was spiritually – to connect with other believers from different industries and meet members of the faith-based community from different churches. And I enjoyed listening to speakers like former Secretary of State JohnAshcroft, Michael Hyter with Korn Ferry, a global orga- nizational consulting firm, and Don Campion, president and CEO of BanyanAir who refurbished amissionary hospital in Egbe Nige- ria. Just getting to hear their stories and get encouraged. I also enjoyed the reading material. My favorite reading ma- terial was on WilliamWilberforce and how he became a believer and he wanted to be a preacher, but the Prime Minister of Eng- land convinced him that he could actually have more impact in Parliament. He championed a number of social justice causes including abolition of slavery throughout the British Empire. It conveyed this whole concept that we are not all called to be in the ministry vocationally, but our ministry is in our specific work whether that’s being a plumber, a lawyer, an electrician or a gen- eral contractor. GN – You decided to sponsor Lifework Leadership. What is it that made you go to that next level and say, “I want to invest in other people having this opportunity?” Brent – I believe a lot of the principles and themes taught in Lifework have allowed our company to be successful. We’ve been blessed and so it’s a natural thing for us to want to support Lifework knowing that the next class of leaders is being equipped to make an impact in our local community. GN - Whodo you think shouldparticipate inLifework Leadership? Brent - I would say it’s for anybody who is a Christian in busi- ness wrestling with questions like, how can I be salt and light in business? How do you do business with integrity? All the key areas that lifework hits on, so if that’s something you want to wrestle with and have support and encouragement to do as a leader, then I think Lifework is for you.
