Currently, there are more than 400 children in Broward County in need of adoption into a loving home and more than 100,000 children in U.S. foster care waiting to find permanent, loving families. Since 2000, Na- tional Adoption Day events have moved nearly 65,000 fos- ter children into the arms of a forever family by working closely with policymakers, prac- titioners and advocates to final- ize adoptions and to create and celebrate adoptive families. Over the last year, 371 children were adopted in Broward County. ChildNet and its community partners hope to increase that number this year. On National Adoption Day, Zandra Way adopted her 20- month old granddaughter Zara Moody due to circumstances that prevented her daughter from taking on the parental role. Zandra expressed how her family means everything to her and she is blessed to be afforded the opportunity to make sure her granddaughter remains with family and is well cared for. Holly and Pedro Garcia adopted 6-year-old Quantavi- ous Janes. Miss Garcia be- came prompted to become a foster parent after dealing with her grandson’s cancer. When the cancer went into remission, she made a promise to God that she would get back to chil- dren in whatever way possible. Throughout the years they have adopted 3 girls, (17,13 and 4 years of age), and are wishing to adopt Quantavious to complete their family.
