OUT AND ABOUT 58 DECEMBER 2019 www.goodnewsfl.org Good News • South Florida Edition When the sun sets, the Museum comes alive – with young professionals. In No- vember, the Museum of Dis- covery and Science (MODS) hosted another of its adults- only event series. Discovery After Dark: “MODS Makes,” a science-themed soirée where guests had the opportunity to explore the new Leighton Family Hangar, hands-on STEM experiences, and aug- mented reality with Magic Leap Technology. The Hangar is a high-tech makerspace located in the re- cently remastered and ex- panded To Fly Aviation Exhibit Hall. It is a unique fusion of a science lab, engineering work- shop, innovation workshop and art room, which encour- ages collaboration and fosters the development of new skills with hands-on activities, from robotics and electronics, to sewing and 3D printing. The Discovery After Dark program was presented by Al- lied Steel Buildings and sup- ported by Grateful Palate, Saltwater Brewery and Shoot- ers Waterfront. The evening was hosted by Friends of MODS, the Museum’s auxil- iary that supports the Mu- seum through fundraising events and volunteer opportu- nities, and whose members also serve as the Museum’s goodwill ambassadors in the community. The next Discovery After Dark: Dinosaurs will take place on February 20, 2020.
