OUT AND ABOUT 24 APRIL 2019 Good News • South Florida Edition National Day of Prayer Planned on May 2nd Shelly Pond Good News Editor On Thursday, May 2, people of all faiths are invited to pray for our nation during the National Day of Prayer. The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance that was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. The theme this year is “loveone another,” based on John 13:34: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (NIV). Stella Tokar, of The Bridge Church in Pembroke Pines, is the South Florida coordinator for theNa- tional Dayof Prayer. “When I became a Christian and discovered I was al- lowed to have a personal conversa- tionwith theLord, it was so impactful, ” said Tokar. “Because there has been so much turmoil, I think people are ready for this. The theme couldn’t be more appropriate this year, and I believe God uses it all,” said Tokar. Several church and civic groups have organized prayer gatherings.
