OUT AND ABOUT 30 SEPTEMBER 2018 Good News • South Florida Edition Anita Fain Taylor brings back to Broward County the third-place trophy of the 2018 Toastmasters International World Championship of Pub- lic Speaking held in Chicago on Saturday, August 25. To make it to the finals, Taylor defeated 30,000 competitors from across the globe includ- ing the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, Middle East, Africa, India, China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. After competing in the Semi- Finals with the top one hun- dred speakers, Taylor made it to the top ten with her speech, “Take Your Shot.” Her final speech, “IT IS WHAT IT IS. IT AIN’T WHAT IT AIN’T,” earned her a spot in the top three in the world. Ms. Taylor is often noted for injecting humor and faith in some of the most difficult topics. “I am overwhelmed to be a part of Toastmasters’ his- tory,” said Taylor. “I witnessed some of the most outstand- ing speakers from across the globe, and I am so blessed to have been among the great- est public speakers.” Making Toastmasters history, this is the first time that women won as the top three finalists. At the same time, the world-wide organi- zation elected a woman pres- ident, Lark Doley, DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster). Women were not permitted to join Toastmasters until 1973.
