Good News - September 2018

Neighboring in Vision 2023 The Good News is committed to providing a platform for Church United to further engage the South Florida community at-large through our marketplace readership. I was pleased to attend the quarterly gathering of CHURCH UNITED on Thursday, August 30th at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Fort Lauderdale, where approximately 200 church leaders attended; the theme? A well-produced, agenda-driven program lead by Eddie Copeland, Church United Director. He orchestrated a dialogue that pro- duced a somewhat organic outpouring of relevant ideas, which mor- phed into unifying our community with intentional purpose by consciously expanding on becoming more neighborly. The following are excerpts from the morning program: "Lord, you're helping us do what we were told was probably impossible – to lay down our own personal church agendas and work TOGETHER as CHURCH UNITED in your neighborhood kingdom." - Rob Pacienza, Lead Pastor, Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Fort Lauderdale "We need to be about the great church IM" - Doug Sauder, Senior Pastor, Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale "We will be doing more this year with our schools in Palm Beach county with organizations like First Priority and Fellowship of Chris- tian Athletes (FCA) and we're excited." - Todd Mullins, Senior Pastor, Christ Fellowship, Palm Beach Gardens Featured speaker: Dave Runyon, co-author of The Art of Neighboring, and co-founder of CityUnite, Denver, Colorado "What's the smartest thing we can do together?" “We brought leaders together from all different industries and walks of life and asked each: Show us the city through your eyes.” “We learned that we (churches) have all types of programs BUT – relationships ALWAYS trump programs!” "To think big, we really need to think small; like neighborhoods" Luke 10: 1-3 “After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.” - Les PUBLISHER 2 SEPTEMBER 2018 Good News • South Florida Edition South Florida Edition • Good News • September 2018 • Volume 20, Issue 6 - Leslie J.
