OUT AND ABOUT 36 JULY 2018 Good News • South Florida Edition The 8th annual Black and Blue Dine Around Event hosted by Victory Living Pro- grams raised money for a good cause and tantalized taste buds, making it the best one yet! Guests began the evening on June 3 with cock- tails and hors d’oeuvres at Blue Martini, followed by din- ner, wine and dessert at The Capital Grille. The night con- cluded back at Blue Martini for after-dinner drinks and dancing. All proceeds went to Victory Living Programs. Victory Living Programs has been helping individuals with disabilities in Broward County live, work and play independ- ently for more than 40 years. Broward College Village Square held its final Dinner at the Square on June 6, at the Funky Buddha Brewery in Oakland Park. The non-parti- san discussion took a dive into real-time events as youths across the United States, led by survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting are calling for action on gun control. Guests were provided din- ner as they listened to a panel of student representatives and topic experts present varying viewpoints. Moderated by Broward County District 3 Commissioner Michael Udine, the panelists addressed the questions: “Does your voice count”, “Are the young voices being heard” and “Will change ultimately occur”? Panelists were Yolanda Cash Jackson, a shareholder at Becker & Poliakoff and Civil Rights Activist Megan Hobson, a survivor and community ac- tivist, spokesperson, and coor- dinator for Moms Demand Ac- tion and Crime Survivors for Safety & Justice and Mei-Ling Ho-Shing, a survivor and stu- dent activist for #NeverAgain at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
