Bearing witness for life outside abortion facilities saves lives. That’s the whole idea behind 40 Days for Life, a global outreach to bring an end to abortion. And the concept is sim- ple. This international pro-life mobilization involves 40 Days of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil and community outreach. To date, there have been 13,305 unborn lives saved. This fall’s campaign takes place worldwide from September 27 to November 5. In Broward, campaigns take place in Fort Lauderdale at the Fort Lauderdale Women’s Center, 2001 Oak- land Park Blvd, and in Holly- wood at the Woman's Center of Hollywood, 3829 Holly- wood Boulevard. Moments that count Tewannah Aman, execu- tive director of Broward Right to Life, was in front of the Fort Lauderdale abortion fa- cility one Saturday morning a few months ago when she saw a young woman, “Marie,” crying outside the abortion facility. Tewannah reached out and quickly dis- covered Marie was confused about what to do. Her boyfriend was encouraging her to keep the baby, but she didn’t feel it was the right time. A full-time student at Broward College, Marie works part-time and the thought of a child over- whelmed her. Plus, she had lots of questions. What about childcare? Could she still handle going to school? What about her job? Tewannah talked to her about the fear she was expe- riencing. She listed places that provide free ultrasounds and pregnancy tests, and of- fered to take her. Marie agreed to go. They ended up at Respect Life where Marie’s pregnancy test came back positive. “The time I spent with her gave me the opportunity to tell her about the develop- ment of the unborn baby,” Tewannah recalled. She as- sured Marie her baby is not an accident and told her God has a plan for both Marie and her child. She also shared how her own past abortion in- flicted physical and deep emotional harm. “I have experienced healing and forgiveness through my relationship with Jesus,” Tewannah said. “But, it has been a hard road.
