OUT AND ABOUT 14 october 2017 Good News • broward edition Robert Taylor Jr. has been named the new chairman of the board at Habitat for Hu- manity of Broward. As Chair, Robert will pro- vide strategic leadership and fiduciary oversight as he leads a dynamic Board and organi- zation over the next two years, which include ambi- tious plans for the agency’s growth. “We are honored to have Robert serve as our chair,” said Nancy Robin, Habitat Broward’s CEO and executive director. “His family and com- pany, Burdette Beckmann, Inc. (BBI), are among our most philanthropic partners. Robert also brings a strong business acumen to our team to lead us during this exciting time in our history.” Taylor will replace Bill Feinberg after completing a two-year tenure in August. Feinberg was part of the team that allowed Habitat Broward to obtain a nine-acre parcel, which will be the site for ARick Case Habitat Community, a new 77-home community in Pompano Beach. A South Florida resident, Taylor’s background includes serving as the current presi- dent and CEO of BBI, the fam- ily-owned national sales agency headquartered in Fort Lauderdale. Taylor has a long history of community volun- teerism and leadership in non- profit organizations, serving on the board of Sheridan House for Boys and Girls, First Prior- ity and Hispanic Unity. Habitat for Humanity Elects Robert Taylor Jr. as New Chairman of the Board Habitat for Humanity of broward, along with hundreds of local volunteers and future homeowners, empowered fam- ilies to build safer communities at its Labor of Love initiative. the seven-hour event held on Labor Day, had volunteers painting houses, laying sod, planting and participating in general clean up around the Washington Park neighbor- hood in Fort Lauderdale. “this is the essence of our mission. We do so much more than build houses. this initiative shows that by bringing hard working, motivated families to- gether with community partners and philanthropists, we can in- deed build homes, communi- ties and hope,” said Nancy robin, Habitat broward’s ceo & executive director. Additionally, Habitat broward hosted a demonstra- tion by broward Municipal Services District called No child Walks Alone. the program, designed to create safer routes and meet up spots for students to walk safely to school, was led by Dis- trict 9 commissioner Dale Hol- ness, K-9 Deputy Kel Li, Jimmy ryce Foundation bloodhound Macie and mounted broward patrol.
